Road Trips! Not very Predictable. It can be totally amazing or it can go totally sideways. A lot doesn’t depend on what you can do, but of course, a lot does too. It’s extremely essential to have all the bases covered, stay very organized and ensure safety is the absolute priority. There are a great many things that would make a road trip fun, which is directly proportional to the safety and well being of you and your fellow road trip companions. Once these things were taken care of the trip will be one of the most memorable ones you’ve ever been on.
There are several factors of preparedness before a road trip
Check the condition of the car:
Take your car out for a Spa Treatment. Of course, the very essence of the road trip is all based on your car. No Matter how soon it has been since the last service of your car, a thorough checkup once more would definitely not hurt, because in all probabilities you are going to take it for a very long spin. Brakes, Lights, Air pressure of tires and its condition, and oil change are all very important checkpoints. And having a tick mark across each of one these points are imperative. Spare tires are live savers and that’s a thing to remember in a long drive. Flat tires and Break downs are absolute spoilers and could ruin the trip altogether. So when its all under your control, well at least mostly, why not just be on top of it.
Maps, distances and pitstops:
Yeah ok… we are super advanced technologically… Google maps and Apple maps of the world can take care of us. But Knowing the route and understanding the areas that you would pass by is non-negotiable. How many Diners are on the way? How many Fuel Stations? Are all the cities, towns and villages that you are passing by safe enough to do so? If not what is you detour route. Are there Motels or hotels or lodges, that you will take a stopover at? if so where are they placed? The Outbursts and the blame games when you are lost is terrible. That’s one thing you really don’t want to go through. So stay ahead of it and have a PLAN B.
Research like a Pro:
So we love Google. And why? Because Google helps us see the greys areas and allows us to learn from other people’s mistakes. Well mostly it’s a search engine, but yeah there are other things too. There is a lot of research that is involved if you want to make your road trip a piece of cake.
Firstly Get the reviews of all the hotels, that falls en route your trip. If need be, then is it safe to make a stopover and at which one? What do people think about it? Can a group of girls or a single person Stay out there? Is it pet-friendly if you have you have a pet travelling with you?
Secondly, stay in the range or know where you can. There are blind spots in every route where you’d be holding your phone up to the roof for those little bars of reception. So read reviews from people who have covered these areas, know where you are still in range. Because there are also the areas before which you enter into, you know you can keep people informed, that you’ll be off the grid and let them know on your whereabouts.
Get ready for the Unforeseen:
Always stay prepared for emergencies. Cuts, tiny little injuries, falls, dust allergies, headaches or motion sickness anything is possible when in the open, and when you are travelling in a group never know who needs what? Bandaids and basic medicines are a mandate. Do a round of poll, see who needs what and make an emergency kit.
Stock up the most vital groceries. Water, small amounts of food with longer expiry dates and which doesn’t have to be temp controlled and snacks have to be a part of the packing. A lot of us have always been wary of carrying too much stuff with a plan to shop on the way, but only to realise we need to get to the destination faster or before nightfall and it’s better to wait it out until we get there. But remember that hungry people are cranky people, and an empty stomach literally sucks out all the fun from the trip. Also Instant coffee or tea and Hot water in the flasks, is an awesome content in your food basket because it also keeps the person driving alert.
Keep everyone in mind:
In every trip, there is always a leader. Though the ideas come in from everyone, there is always one person carrying out the most amount of resposibilities, and if that’s you, then keep in mind that you have others to think about. Ask people what they need and like. Do they have specific necessities? Do they have food allergies, or are they vegans? For a long distance journey, what exactly makes them comfortable? Is it a pillow or a throw? What kind of music do people like? And what will keep everyone entertained?
And if your fur babies are travelling with you, then, needless to say, you need to take care of everything that they will need to make them love the journey. They are dependent on you 100% and if they don’t look happy, then you aren’t going to be either.
So we have almost everything covered. Well, you can make a huge checklist, but it always still turns out the way it has to. So be prepared for everything but most importantly be prepared to have fun. Because road trips are fun and adventurous and there are a ton of memories that you can make, explode the space on your phone with photos, and get to know your friends better than ever. So do it, and at least once. Because it’s going to be so so different from any of your previous vacations. Stay alert, stay educated, stay considerate and have an amazing time. HAPPY ROAD TRIP!
