The journey will begin at 9:00am at a designated place where you will commence your adventure with a pleasurable 30 minute tuk tuk ride to the beginning of the hiking trail.
By 10 a.m., you will hike for approximately 4-5 hours over 500 meters of gradual elevation. The trail runs through stretches of bamboo plantations and the entire journey will last about 3-4 hours. You will walk through the thick rainforests and be guided by a guide from one of the local communities, till lunch time. The trail leads to a remarkable primary jungle which we will enter into by the afternoon. Walking on further, the dense jungles lead the way into lighter grasses including paddy fields of rice, banana plantations and more cultivated lands! By 3 p.m., you will reach Nalan village, a village completely cut-off from the rest of
Laos and the world. The Nalan village exists in its own small forest bubble, preserving centuries’ old of rich and unique culture of the Khamu tribe. Feel free to spend your time understanding their way of life completely in contrast to the life in cities and towns that you are used to.
After a long day of trekking, you can take rest, swim in the river or even stroll through the woods for the rest of the evening. Eco-lodges will be provided for your overnight stay at the village.
Rise and shine! Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., following which you will be guided through the basic instructions on kayaking techniques and safety measures to be kept in mind. You will now embark on a 4-5 hour adventurous journey down the daunting rivers of the Luang Namtha province! You will begin with paddling down the Namha river which flows through the Namha National Park. After two hours of kayaking you will enjoy a refreshing break for a meet and greet session with the Lantan people of the Khamu villages located along the banks of the river. After lunch, kayaking continues, this time over an hour of battle with the mighty rapids on the river. The rapids finally lead is into a larger river- the Namtha river, a tributary of the famous Mekong river! Here you continue kayaking through shady canopies of the surrounding forests, tunneling our route until we reach yet another charming Khamu village called the Houay Leuat village. Your day ends at the village, where you can swim, walk around or even sleep in the eco-lodges provided as accommodation.
Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. in the morning. By 10 a.m., you will once again begin your trekking expedition for 3-4 hours over a 300 meter gradual elevation. The trail you will follow runs exclusively through bamboo plantations. During lunch time (around 12.30 p.m.) a local guide from one of the Khamu communities will escort you around the forest and help you identify and collect edible plants and other materials from the jungle, which you will cook in bamboo canes and learn the lip-smacking traditional techniques of cooking. You will also learn the art of tropical bushcrafting and surviving in the wild!
At 2.00 p.m., the trek will finish in the hillsides of Hat Yong village. Another 30 minutes ride on a tuk tuk will drive you back to our Luang Namtha office to finally conclude your journey with us!
