Activity Schedule

Day 1Hiking to Nalan village

The journey begins at a designated meeting place at 9 a.m. in the morning, commencing the adventure with a pleasurable 30 minute tuk tuk ride to the beginning of the hiking trail.

By 10 a.m., you finally begin our much looked-forward to trekking journey for 4-5 hours. The hike will be over a 500 meter gradual elevation that will guide us to the Nalan village. You will walk through thick rainforests until lunch time. The initial part of the trek will be guided by a guide from one of the local communities. Post lunch hours in the afternoon, the spectacular primary jungles will give way to tiny expanses of rice paddies, banana plantations and other cultivated lands. By 3 p.m., you will finally reach Nalan village, a village that is completely cut-off from the rest of Laos.

The Nalan village exists in its own forest bubble, forming an ecosystem by itself. Here, you have the opportunity to learn about the unique cultures and traditions followed by the Khamu people. You will spend the rest of the day and night at the Nalan village, in eco-lodges provided as accommodation. Feel free to relax yourself by sleeping, swimming in the river or strolling in the woods!

Day 2Kayaking/Rafting

Rise and shine! Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., following which you commence 4-5 hours of an amazing kayaking journey down the Namha river! In the first two hours of gentle paddling, you will have invigorating breaks by visiting some of the Khamu villages situated by the bank of the river.

Brace yourself for the last hour of kayaking as gentle waters will be replaced by fresh, grueling rapids. But do not let these rapids intimidate you as you will recoup on passing through shady canopies that form tunnels on your way until the river finally joins the greater Namtha river! By 3 p.m. your kayaking experience will conclude at another charming settlement – the Houay Leuat village. From there another one hour’s ride on the tuk tuk will bring you back to Luang Namtha.
