Tour Details

The mythical Namtha river, also called the Green River, is a magnificent tributary draining into the Mekong river in the northwest border of the Luang Namtha Province. It is the perfect locale to drift calmly through walls of intense, lush green forests on either sides of the river and leave the humdrum affairs of daily life behind, while also experiencing the perfect surge of adrenaline rush through you while on the countless sets of foamy rapids of the river. You can enjoy the concert of the rainforest changing rhythm at each smooth turn of the river.  So stream through and explore the impressively breath-taking natural beauty of the earthy green-colored waters of this majestic tributary of the Mekong overlooking the tiny tribal villages nestled on its banks.

The trip can be tailored from one, two or three day’s duration as per your preference. The program is customized separately should you choose the 1, 2 or 3 days option. Please reach out to us for more information on the different customizations available.

Activity Schedule

The journey will begin at a designated place at 9:00am in the morning where the adventure commences with a fun 30 minute tuk-tuk ride to the kayaking starting point. Having soaked in the awesomeness of the starting point, you would be guided through the basic instructions on kayaking techniques and safety. Following this, we embark on our adventurous journey down the biggest and most important water artery of the Luang Nam tha province! You would begin with paddling down the Namtha river, and over 2 hours of kayaking.

A little local flavor – After two hours of kayaking you will enjoy a refreshing break for a meet and greet session with the Lantan people at the Sop Tud village along the river. An hour later, a bunch of exciting rapids makes way for lunch and Lao picnic at the river bank. In the afternoon, the paddling continues through treacherous rapids and lovely jungle scenery. The river currents bring you to a few Khamu villages, where you can enjoy a short siesta and learn more about the local way of life. You will now move further down the stream to Houay Leuat village, another small but rather charming Khamu settlement which finally ends our eventful and adventurous tryst with the Namtha river and the bewitching ecosystem it supports. From the Houay Leuat village, it is a 1 hour tuk-tuk ride back to Luang Namtha.
