Activity Schedule

Day 1Kayaking on the Namtha river

Your journey commences at a designated place at 9 a.m. in the morning where the adventure starts with a pleasurable 30 minute tuk tuk ride to the beginning of the kayaking start-point.

By 10 a.m., you would be guided through the basic instructions on kayaking techniques and safety. Following this, we embark on our adventurous journey down the biggest and most important water artery of the Luang Nam tha province! You would begin with paddling down the Namtha river, and over 2 hours of kayaking. After two hours of kayaking you will enjoy a refreshing break for a meet and greet session with the Lantan people of the Sop Tud village located along the banks of the river.

This is followed by an hour of kayaking down rapids on the river. Kayaking through the rapids is enough to make you feel hungry for a scrumptious lunch awaiting you at the Lao picnic spot on the river bank! After lunch, more kayaking experience finally brings you to some more Khamu village settlements. By approximately 4 p.m., you will reach the Houay Leuat village.

Here you can sleep, swimming in the river or even walk through the woods, after a long day on the river! Learn of the daily lives of local Khamu people here and admire their rich way of life! Eco-lodges will be provided for your overnight stay at the village.

Day 2Trekking and picnic

Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by your much awaited hike over a 300 meters of gradual elevation. The trail runs through stretches of bamboo plantations and the entire journey will last about 3-4 hours. You will walk through thick rainforests until lunch time. For lunch, a guide from one of the local communities will escort you around the forest and help you identify and collect edible plants and other materials from the jungle, which you will cook in bamboo canes and learn the lip-smacking traditional techniques of cooking. You will also learn the art of tropical bushcraft and surviving in the wild!

By 2 p.m., the trek concludes at the cultivated hill sides of the Hat Yong village. Here, you have the opportunity to learn about the unique cultures and traditions followed by the village locals. From the village, another one hour’s ride on the tuk tuk will bring you back to Luang Namtha office.
